Selling used electronics privately

Laptops, cameras, consoles and other electronics have functions and accessories that are easy to misunderstand. Test the item and document the handover clearly.

Test before you list

Power the item on and check the functions you intend to describe. For a console, that may include controllers and disc drives. For a laptop, check the display, keyboard, battery and ports. For a camera, test the shutter, screen, lens and storage.

Record what matters

Make, model, serial number and useful specifications.
Cosmetic wear, repairs, replaced parts and known faults.
Chargers, cables, controllers, cases, manuals and packaging included.
Photos of screens, ports, labels and existing damage.

Document the handover
